According to some sources a number of the Surazh Vitebskiy Jews were murdered on the banks of the Surazhka river. The Soviet documents report about the shooting of 447 town's civilians in the late 1941 – early 1942 at the same location but do not mention directly the Jewish origin of the victims.

In the ravine of the creek [sic] Surazhka to the northeast from Surazh RVK [County Military Commissariat] building in 6 pits there were found 447 soviet civilians, executed by the German occupiers in the late 1941 and the early 1942.
