The Wołożyn ghetto was liquidated on August 29, 1942. On that day SS men, together with German gendarmerie men and local policemen, surrounded the ghetto and then drove all the Jews into a large barn across the Volozhinka River, east of Dubinskaia (now Kastrychnitskaia) Street. Once the Jews were inside, the SS started shooting at the barn and then poured gasoline on the bodies of both the dead and of those only wounded and set the barn on fire. Apparently about 450 Jews were killed on that day.
