The first murder operation against the Jews was carried out in late July or early August 1941. The Jewish men – who were shop assistants, according to some sources – were collected from their homes and taken across the river to the area of the Kutuzovkiy Park. According to most testimonies, there were about ten victims, although some sources put their number as high as 70. The victims appear to have been shot in the southern section of the park.

From an article titled "The Holocaust in Goroshki", by Aleksandr Gonchar
… The German Fascist occupiers and their loyal henchmen, the policemen, murdered the Jewish population with particular cruelty. According to the recollections of the late Vera Ivanovna Nechiporenko (1920 – 1992), a resident of the county, they began to shoot the innocent people near the Kutuzovskiy Park in summer 1941. There used to be a large barn on the right, at the spot that is currently occupied by the memorial to Mikhail Kutuzov. The Fascists would bring the villagers there and brutally murder them.
