The immediately after the occupation of Dovsunskoye (Dovsun) the Germans arrested the Jewish refugees who had sought refuge in the village. Six of them escaped from the Germans and returned to the village to try and hide near an artesian well. Three elderly Jews and three Jewish children asked if the Gestapo was in the town. Suddenly the Germans showed up and arrested them. At nine o’clock in the evening, the Germans took all the Jews in Dovsun to a stable without a roof. They took away the Jews' possessions and then forced a local landowner to start an engine of a vehicle to drown out the screams of the victims. A group of arrestees totalling 29 men, including Jews and Soviet POWs, was forced to line up. The Jews and POWs were shot separately.

ChGK Soviet Reports from Dovsunskoye
State Extraordinary Commission for Investigation of Nazi War Crimes in the Soviet Union (ChGK) documentation dated 1943, regarding the murder and persecution of Jews in Ordzhonikidzevskiy Kray, 1942
On August 25, 1942, six Jews, three elderly ones and three children, who were tired, exhausted, asked if the Gestapo had arrived. Suddenly some vehicles arrived at the artesian well and started questioning the locals as to whether they were any Jews there and if anyone had tried to get some water there. Within half an hour the Germans had shot the six Jews to death. The German officers took the corpses to a livestock washing station. On the same day, at nine o clock in the evening, the Germans shot to death 23 people of Jewish nationality in a stable without a roof. This barbarian villainy took place as follows: Soviet POWs were [being held] in the stable. In the evening the landowner and the cattle were taken from the stable at the order of German headquarters. The Gestapo then sent put the Jews, whose clothing and possessions were confiscated, into the stable. A strange sound was heard: following a German order, the motors of some vehicles were turned on to drown out the screams of the victims. Suddenly shots resounded, then the screams of mothers and children were heard, reflecting their terror at the frightful horrors they were witnessing. This continued until the end of the single shots.
