In late 1941 several thousand Jews of all ages and both sexes who had been incarcerated in the ghetto in Cherkassy's Mytnitsa neighborhood were taken out of the ghetto in a southerly direction along the Smela road. After about 3 kilometers the victims were halted and shot to death, near the meat-processing factory, by members of Einsatzkommando 5 of Einsatzgruppe C.

The Soviet report from Cherkassy:
…In 1941, immediately after the capture of the city of Cherkassy by the German occupiers, three [Communist] Party members were hanged…After some time, all of the Jews living in the city were moved downtown, [to] the Mytnitsa [neighborhood]. After they had been living in the downtown area for some time, all of them were taken out of the city toward Smela and were abused and then shot.
