On March 11, 1942 SS and SD forces surrounded the ghetto. The Germans drove the Jews to the market place, beating them with rubber truncheons and gun butts. Sick persons were shot to death on the spot. From time to time, the Germans also shot into the crowd. The Jews were divided into two groups -- of those cosidered capable of working -- was composed of young persons and specialists, the other - of those deemed unfit to work. The Germans took the second group -- composed from women, children, and men considered incapable of working -- to a barn. Then the Germans took the men into the barn in groups of four and shot them to death. The Germans poured gasoline ove the bodies of the Jews and set the barn on fire. During this murder operation about 850 Jews were murdered.
