Murder story of Novy Chudnov Jews in the Horse Stable in Novyy Chudnov

In August (according to other sources, in September) 1941, the Jews of Novyy Chudnov were collected by local policemen, as well as by Germans. They were forced to strip naked and then to dig a pit about 200 meters northwest of the stable of the local kolkhoz. When the pit was ready, the victims were shot at the edge of the pit. According to different sources the number of Jews shot ranged from 68 to 112.

In the last days of September 1941 the Gendarmerie arrived from Chudnov to our village Novyy Chudnov. With the assistance of the commandant, the Novyy Chudnov Gendarmerie began to carry out arrests of peaceful Soviet civilians of Jewish origin. On one day the Gendarmerie arrested 70 Jewish people. They were taken outside the village of Novyy Chudnov and forced to undress. Then the naked people had to dig a pit for themselves. After that they were stood next to the pit and all the seventy people were shot. The Germans, with the help of the policemen, shot a total of 110 people in Novyy Chudnov village.

Stanislav Mazyaril reported that he and his fellow residents witnessed the following event:
One day in August 1941, around 5 o'clock in the morning, the Germans surrounded the village of Novyy Chudnov; some policemen also took part in this. They began to catch the Jews and force them into a kolkhoz building. When all of them had been forced inside, 68 of them were taken from there to the area behind the brick stable of the Novyy Chudnov kolkhoz. These people were forced to dig a large pit 150 – 200 meters northwest of the stable. When the pit was ready, they were brought close to it and shot to death. Every one who had hid in a pile of straw that was close by were also shot.

The ChGK report from Novy Chudnov
During the period of the occupation of Novyy Chudnov village by the German invaders from July 7, 1941 to January 5, 1944 the German Fascist beasts annihilated – shot to death - 112 people, innocent Soviet civilians of Jewish origin. Among them were 83 adults and 28 children.
