Murder Story of Smela Jews at the Smela Synagogue

According to a testimony of Klara Karasik, a Holocaust survivor from Smela, an unknown number of Jews of the town were forced into the synagogue and burned alive. Neither the exact date of this massacre nor the identity of its perpetrators is known.

According to information at our disposal …My grandfather Zeylik and my grandmother…Leyke Plastik, who brought me up until I moved to Dnepropetrovsk to [join] my parents,… were burned alive, along with other Jews of the town, in the synagogue of the city of Smela of the Kiev District…
