In the summer or fall of 1941 several hundred Jews of Rakitnoye were collected and taken by truck to a ravine near the former Yiddish school on the town's outskirts, where they were shot to death. Neither the exact date of this massacre nor the precise number of victims is known. The perpetrators were probably members of Einsatzgruppe C and local auxiliary policemen.
