Murder Story of Malin Jews in Shcherbov Yar

Most of Malin's Jews were shot in the course of a number of murder operations during August and September 1941. Among the victims were children and old people. According to Soviet reports, the Jews who were shot (numbering between 670 and 1,000) were buried in five mass graves in the area of Shcherbov Yar, behind the local entertainment park.

From the testimony of Lyudmila Shevchenko, who was born in Malin in 1924 and lived in the area during the war years:
It was in early September 1941. While passing through the town center, I saw a large military truck transporting young children who were huddling together on its benches. My painful assumption was that those were Jewish children being taken to be shot behind the park. Many Jews had already been taken along this road. The older children held their parents' hands, while the younger children were carried by their mothers. I was horrified….
