On September 15, 1941 about 400 Jews of Kaganovich were collected at the town's stadium, ostensibly for work. There they were loaded onto trucks and taken northwes, to a pit in the forest 2 kilometers from the town, near the road leading to Tarasy village, and shot dead. The perpetrators of this massacre were probably members of Sonderkommando 4a of Einsatzgruppe C.

During their occupation of Kaganovich County the Germans shot to death about 1,000 residents. On September 15, 1941 an order was posted throughout the town according to which all persons of Jewish origin had to appear at the town stadium "to carry out [some] work."
