Soon after the Germans occupied Elista more than 300 Jews were taken to a ravine between the villages of Arshan and Voznesenovka. Then, after they were forced to undress, they were shot to death.

We were twelve people who arrived at Elistar [sic] from Maykop. This place is located 400 kilometers from Maykop in the direction of Astrakhan. This place is in the middle of the Kalmyk steppe. There for the first time (after Maykop) we were engaged in operational activity. I was once personally present there at the shooting of 80 Jewish men, women, and children….
