On September 23, 1941 about 100 Jews of Kiev were arrested and taken to the area of the former training ground of an engineering regiment on the southern outskirts of the city. There they were killed with explosives. The perpetrators were apparently members of a forward squad of Sonderkommando 4a of Einsatzgruppe C.

…On September 23 [1941] German policemen arrested about 100 Jews, took them outside Kiev to a combat engineering training ground, where there was a pit. Mines were placed there in preparation [for the massacre], all the people were brought there and the mines were set on fire and detonated. The whole column of these people died there…
