In July (or September, according to some testimonies), 1941, a short time after the start of the occupation of Tyvrov by German troops, about 30 Jewish men were taken out of town to anti-tank trenches in the forest about 1.5 kilometers from Tyvrov. There, after being abused, they were shot to death by SS-men, apparently members of Einsatzkommando 6 of Einsatzgruppe C, and Ukrainian auxiliary policemen.

In November (September, according to some testimonies), 1941 about 400 Jews of Tyvrov of all ages and both sexes were collected at the building of the former synagogue. From there they were loaded onto trucks and taken to the same place in the forest outside Tyvrov and shot at the anti-tank trenches. According to some testimonies the shooting was preceded by abuse of the victims. The perpetrators of this massacre were members of Einsatzkommando 5 of Einsatzgruppe C, assisted by local auxiliaries.

After the massacre the forest where the mass murder was carried began to be referred to by local residents as "The Black Forest."

…At the time of the German entry [into Tyvrov], i.e. on July 18, 1941, the Germans ordered all the Jewish men [to come] with iron shovels, loaded them onto trucks, took them to The Black Forest, and shot all of them there. In September 1941 the German monsters collected all the Jewish women, children, and the remaining men; they were also loaded onto trucks, taken to The Black Forest, and all of them were shot there. The bodies of the murder victims were buried in a mass grave that contained about 250 people…

... A resident of the town of Tyvrov named Snegurskiy, who saw a group of 28 doomed people being taken to The Black Forest in September 1941, relates the following: "I saw German executioners and members of the Gendarmerie [apparently local policemen] forcing the group of the doomed people to dig a pit measuring 3 x 5 meters and 1.5 meters deep, [then] forcing them to dance, sing, pray, and perform other Jewish rituals [and] afterwards they were brutally beaten to death with rifle buts, shovels etc., some of them were shot after being abused"… From June 30 to July 3, 1944, the Commission [i.e., Extraordinary State Commission] carried out a forensic examination of the bodies exhumed from the burial places of Soviet civilians and prisoners of war murdered by the Germans; it determined [the following]: …413 people were buried in the town of Tyvrov in The Red [apparently should be Black] Forest…. According to the state of the forensic changes and based on the state of the bodies it can be assumed that… mass shootings of, violence against, and burial alive of the children, women, and elderly of the town of Tyvrov in The Black Forest should be dated to late 1941….

…In September 1941 the German-Fascist occupiers rounded up 28 civilians of the town of Tyvrov under the pretext of sending them to work and shot them brutally in the forest near the town of Tyvrov. Before being shot, the doomed civilians were forced to dig a pit 3 x 5 meters and 1.5 meters deep, forced to dance, sing, pray, and perform other rites; afterwards the people were brutally beaten with shovels [and with] rifle buts and then shot. In November 1941, continuing their outrageous policy of the annihilation of innocent civilians, the German-Fascist occupiers brutally annihilated a group of 392 civilians, mostly innocent women, children, [and] elderly people. These innocent people were driven to the Bug River, forced to wash there, and to sweep the road, and [then] were taken to a pit that had been dug earlier. On the way the people were beaten with rifle buts, rubber clubs, and whips; the children who lagged behind were kicked along. This entire group was brutally shot…
