In November 1942 200 Jewish workers from the labor camp were taken to a pit that had been prepared at the yard of the Dominican church. They were made to strip naked and lie face down in the pit, then they were shot to death with rifles in the back of the head by members of a Gendarmerie (rural order police) murder squad under the command of Lieutenant Gashe, the head of the Letichev District Gendarmerie.

The ChGK report from Letichev
We, the undersigned members of the [ChGK] vommission… compiled the following document….
... In November 1942 in the yard of the Dominican church, east of the fortress of Letichev, 200 Soviet [Jewish] civilians were shot to death. The shooting of the victims, one after the other, was carried out with rifles. Before the shooting the German fascists forced the civilians who were marked for death to strip naked, to lie face down inside the pit, and then shot to death in the back of the head. The shooting was carried out under the command of Lieutenant Gashe, the head of the Gendarmerie. The order was carried out by Peterman, a member of the Gendarmerie and Pavlov [apparently a Ukrainian auxiliary policeman].
