Murder Site
Voronezh Area
Russia (USSR)
The Germans began to expel the local population from the occupied part of the town. During the eviction the Germans conducted a document check. If the papers identified their bearers as being of Jewish origin, they were immediately shot on the streets of Voronezh. Thus, several Jewish families, consisting mostly of women, children, and old people, were discovered and murdered near their homes, on Cheluskintsev Street and Sredne-Moskovskaya Street.

During the eviction of Jewish residents from Voronezh the Germans murdered many of them. For example, the Krivcher – Gurevich family, consisting of 6 people, including 3 young children, was shot at no. 45 Cheluskintsev Street. E. Larina, a neighbor of the Krivchers, testified as follows: "When the Germans evicted us, they checked the "nationality" line of the passports [i.e., identity cards]. During this passport check the Germans found out that the sisters whose last names were Krivcher and Gurevich were Jewish. They were immediately detained and taken to a yard, together with their children. Then I heard shots." When Voronezh was liberated, the bodies of the Krivcher and Gurevich sisters and of their children, who had been brutally shot by the Germans, were found in the yard of house no. 45 [on Chelyuskintsev Street].
