Soon after the beginning of the occupation the 20 Jewish men remaining in Klimovo were collected and taken to the forest near the town. There they were shot, together with some Communists. According to other sources the shooting was carried out in late September 1941.

Ivan Maksimovich, who was born in 1911 in Klimovo and lived there during the war years, testified:
... As soon as the Germans entered our county, around the month of August 1941, all the Jewish residents were registered. After some time all the Jewish men were collected at the police station on the pretext of being sent to work. Then they were put onto a truck and driven to the forest in the direction of Novozybkov. In half an hour the same truck returned for the rest of the Jews who had been collected. As soon as the second group was brought, all of them were shot. … The shooting was carried out during the last days of September 1941. The shooting was carried out by Germans since there were not yet any [local collaborating] policemen....

Marfa Lagutina, who was born in 1914 in Klimovo and lived there during the war years, testified:
... As soon as the Germans entered Klimov all the Jewish men and Communist Party members were collected in the commandant's office. They numbered 21. All of them were put on a truck and shot in the forest.... the policemen personally shot these comrades....
