Murder story of Bazaliya Jews in the Manevtsy Forest

In July 1942 the Jews of Baziliya were driven by Ukrainian auxiliary police out of their homes in the ghetto, loaded onto trucks, and taken to the forest near Manevtsy village, located east of the town. They were shot to death there by a German unit. Gebietskommissar (regional commissar) Gerald Shefer was in charge of this murder operation.

… a few days later some trucks full of fascist soldiers came to Bazaliya from Antoniny. They were having a binge all night long. At dawn the town filled with moans and cries. The bandits turned the Jews out of their houses and pushed them into trucks. Children were thrown in there too. The trucks drove to the forest not far from Antoniny. All my fellow-townspeople were killed there: Only one woman survived by some miracle. This was Manya Shuster. …
