In September 1942, on German orders, Ukrainian policemen murdered about 300 Jews at a pit that had been prepared near the Jewish cemetery, located about 1 kilometer east of the town.

From the testimony of Yosef Getman, who was born in Kupin in 1919:
...Q: What happened there [in Kupin], … ? What were you told?… how was the murder carried out?
A: The violence was carried out only by Ukrainian policemen, there were no Germans. During the killing when they [the Jews] were shot, only one German was present.
Q: When they were shot to death?
A: In 1942, in October. [T]he neighbors themselves, the best of them, who had been living with them [the Jews] for 50 years or more, were doing the killing. However, the murder was mainly carried out by Ukrainian [policemen], they were carrying out the murder. All [the Jews] were murdered.…
