On August 31, 1941, according to a German report from September 1, 1941 the 320th Police Battalion shot to death (according to a testimony some of them were buried alive) 380 Jews from the villages of Sokolets and Velikiy Zhvanchik near Sokolets forest. A Soviet ChGK document from 1944, mentions 1,224 victims.

From the testimony of Pavlina Barak Birnbaum, who was born in 1927 and was living in Velykiyi Shvanchik, near Sokolets village, during the war years
….Then everybody was herded into a field where two big pits had been dug. The second pit was prepared for the Jews of another shtetl [Sokolets], located next to [Velikyi] Zhvanchik. … The fascists buried the Jews alive. They were truly beasts…..
