On May 2 (according to other sources, on May 9), 1942, 263 Jews were driven from their homes by the police and taken northeast of the village in the direction of Budo-Pechersk. 216 of the Jews were from Zakharino; the rest had come from other places. The Jews were stripped and shot to death by 7 Germans and 20 policemen in an open field 200 meters from the village.

... On May 2, 1942 all the Jewish population of Zakharino village of the Zakharino rural council of Khislavichi County, Smolensk District was shot. The old people, children, men, and women numbered 263. This figure included: 53 old people age 60 and above; 35 children from newborns to age 10; 36 children age 10 to 15; and 124 men and women. 7 Germans and 20 policemen took part in the shooting of those innocent civilians. The head of Khislavichi County, Shevanda, and the local Russian police chief, Bobkov, also participated in the shooting. They drove the Jews out of their homes and then took them northeast of the village. The shooting of the innocent civilians from Zakharino village was carried out in an open field 200 meters from the village. They [the perpetrators] ripped the outer clothing and underwear, as well as the shoes, off the old people, children, men, and women....
