According to several testimonies, on March 19, 1942 about 10 Jewish children and women were denounced by a local resident to the Gestapo. The Jews were taken by truck and, together with Jews from the neighboring Molotov kolkhoz, were shot to death by a murder squad (or, according to one testimony, buried alive) at irrigation wells dug with the support of the Agro-Joint organization, some distance from Gortenshtot village.
The clothes of the murder victims were given to the village elder Yerokhin and a local policeman named Kapishen.
