In March 1942 9 Jews from Grigorovka village, including 7 members of one family, were taken by cart first to Chaplinka village and then to Askaniya Nova in Zaporozhye District. Upon their arrival at the outskirts of Askaniya Nova the victims were forced to hand over their belongings and dig their own grave. They were then shot to death. Their murderers were apparently local auxiliary policemen from the Chaplinka police station.

Pavel Mikhailevskiy, who was born in 1885 and lived in Grigoryevka during the war years, testified:
… In March 1942 a policeman, whose name I do not know, from the county police arrived and demanded a cart to transport Jewish families.
The cart was put at his disposal and the Jewish family of Mikhail Fridman, Mikhail himself, his wife, his sister, and his 4 children and, also, [membes of] another Jewish family, whose name is unknown an old woman and her granddaughter, for a total of 8 [sic, actually 9] people, were loaded onto the cart and, accompanied by policeman Smilenko, were taken to Chaplinka and from there to Askaniya Nova where, according to the cart driver, all of them were shot. First the children were shot, then their father and mother were forced to dig a grave for them and for themselves and then they [the parents] were shot. The property of these families was taken and divided among the policemen....
