Stone Quarry near Arkhangelskoye
Ukraine (USSR)
On September 20, 1941 local auxiliary policemen of Arkhangelskoye arrested 5 Jews and 6 non-Jews of the village and took them to the rural administration building, where they were held overnight. The next day the victims were divided into two groups, loaded onto carts, and transported to a stone quarry a short distance from the village. Those in the group that included only Jews were forced to undress. Both groups were shot to death. The perpetrators of the massacre were Germans, apparently members of Einsatzgruppe D, and auxiliary policemen from Arkhangelskoye.

…On this date the commission carried out an examination of the sites of atrocities of the German-Romanian occupiers and their toadies… 11 severely decomposed bodies, including those of 5 (five) males and of 6 (six) females that were arranged haphazardly were found by digging in the first grave near Arkhangelskoye village, Bolshaya Aleksandrovka County, Kherson [during the war Nikolayev] District. Five of the bodies were naked. Most of the bodies had traces of bullet wounds in the area of the back of the head. In the opinion of our forensic expert the wounds were caused by firearms such as submachine-guns, Parabellum pistols, and rifles… The testimony of the witnesses Maria Dmitrievna Sitnik[ova] and Darya Vasilyevna Velikaya established that the shooting of those innocent Soviet civilians whose bodies were exhumed from the first grave was carried out on September 21, 1941 by an SS squad, the last names of [the members of] which could not be established, and by Karl Adamovich Malyar, Ivan Feye, Nikita Ignatyevich Kucheryavyi , Pavel Slyusko, Ilya Stepura, Yermolai Vybrik, Nikita Kurylenko, Panas Mikhailovich Gorenko …
