In the first half of September 1941 a unit of Feldgendarmerie took about 100 Jews from Kaganovich village to a well several hundred meters northwest of the village and shot them dead there.

… On this date the commission carried out an examination of the site of an atrocity committed by the German-Fascist occupiers. The examination found a grave [i.e. dead bodies] in a 20-meter deep, 4 meter wide abandoned well. The grave was not opened but the testimony of the witnesses Suprunenko, Polufakin, Kolesnichenko, and others confirmed that 98 residents of Kaganovich village were shot from submachine guns at the well and that all [of the bodies] were thrown into the well.
The shooting was carried out between September 1 and 10, 1941 by 20 members of the field gendarmerie whose names are unknown….
