On March 15, 1942, Askaniya gendarmes shot 200, according to some sources 240, Jews in the area of sand pits 700 meters southeast of Askaniya Nova. The number included the Jews brought there from Grigorovka village and probably from other places. The Jewish women, children, and old people were taken from prison to the shooting site in groups of 10-15.

In addition, during 1942 German gendarmes shot Jewish families, old people, women, and children. The shooting lasted until late in the evening southeast of Askaniya Nova. The bodies of the people who had been shot were dug in the sand pits. A total of at least 200 Jews were shot there.
