According to some of the testimonies submitted to the Soviet Extraordinary Commission, between 40 and 100 Jewish men who had been rounded up in early September 1941 were taken to a stone quarry outside Kakhovka and murdered there.

Akim Sokolov, who was born in 1878 in Kakhovka and lived there during the war years, testified:

… On about September 6-7 [1941] the Germans collected 60 Jews for the alleged purpose of burying bodies. These included my friends Lagerman, Slutskii, and Sheynman, among others. All of them were taken outside of town to a stone quarry and shot there. Lagerman's wife looked for her husband for a long time; after several days she told me that she had found his body in the stone quarry....
