In November 1941 at least 26 Jews were shot on German orders by Ukrainain police from Korop in the basement of the communications office in Ponornitsa.

Matryona Ovsyuk, who was born in 1917 and lived in Ponornitsa during the war years, testified:
… In November 1941 the following civilians were taken to the basement of Ponornitsa's communicatiosn office in November 1941 on orders from the commander, von Levetso, and were brutally murdered with explosives, which were thrown into the basement: 1.
