Kausenai Related Communities
The first group taken to the forest comprised of sixty men. They were shot at by their guards while marching past a textile factory. Forty men were killed. The others were driven by truck to the pits, where they were forced to undress and were then shot. The murder operation, carried out by local Lithuanians, lasted for two days. According to Soviet reports, altogether 1,800 Jews were murdered.
