On March 8, 1942 all the Jews of Shchedrin were forced into the building of the local Yiddish school. From there they were taken in groups of 100 to the local Jewish cemetery, where mass graves had been prepared for them, and they were shot to death. The number of victims has been estimated at 1,100 (although one source cites the figure of 3,800). Local policemen from the regional center Parichi took part in the killing, along with SD units that had arrived in Shchedrin several days earlier.
