In the second half of November of 1941 the Jews of Gorepashnik were assembled at the building of the local club. The Germans told them that they were going to be resettled because of an expected counter-offensive of the Red Army. The Jews were forced to sew Stars of David onto their clothes. To delude them into believing that they were being evacuated, the Jews were loaded onto trucks and driven around for several days. Then, on November 24, they were taken to pits that had been dug in the steppe about one kilometer from Gorepashnik and shot there. A total of 93 Jewish families, from both Goropashnik (Gorepashnik), apparently 25 families, and the town of Saki were murdered at this site.

Interview by Mikhail Tyaglyi and Tatyana Velichko in 2010
-The Jews from Lesnovka and from the town Saki. They gathered them near the club, told them that they were going to be evacuated, they gave them the Stars of David, and then they drove them around the village for a long time. But when they finally reached their destination, there was a long trench, soldiers, dogs... They shot everyone. There is a memorial there, on the same very spot. No one ever re-buried the bodies, or moved the memorial....
People who lived in the villages of Trudovoye, Shelkovichnoye and Mityaevo used to drive mules to Saka to buy salt. When they drove by the trench, they heard moans....
- What was the date of the shooting?
- November 24, 1944.
