In May 1942, with the assistance of local policemen,a German unit that probably arrived from Borisov took all the town's Jews to the Russian Orthodox cemetery. Four hundred and forty Jews were murdered and buried there in graves that had been dug by the villagers.

... One day they formed them [the Jews] into a column and marched them off. They guarded them with dogs and took them to an empty field. There were no trees or woods here then. It was an empty place, just a field. They also rounded up our people. Everyone from the village stood near the burial mound and wept as they saw how they were being murdered....
