A week after the beginning of the occupation of Esmony Germans assembled nine Jewish men. They were ordered to bring shovels with them and told that they were being taken to repair a road. Instead, they were taken into the nearby forest, near the road leading to the village of Karmanovka, ordered to dig a grave, and then shot.
