Pohost Zarzeczny

In the 1880-s there were 350 people lived in Pohost Zarzeczny, most of them were Jews. There was a synagogue in the village. In 1921 the 264 Jewish residents of the village made around 37 percent of its total population. They are belived to have been pretty merchants, peddlers and artisans. There are no details about the fate of the Jewish residents of Pohost Zarzeczny during the Soviet period (September 1939—June 1941). Pohost Zarzeczny was occupied by the Germans in the early July 1941. From onset of the occupation until the Germans set up a local administartionin August 1941, the village was governed by local Ukrainians, who presumably didpossessed and murdered the Jews during the tenure. The Jews were apparently concentrated in an unfenced ghetto. They were murdered in the mid fall of 1942. Pohost Zarzeczny was liberated by the Red army troops May 1943.
