Nagutskoye
Russia (USSR)
In 1939 the village of Nagutskoye, and the entire Nagutsky County were part of the Ordzhonikidze Kray District, which before the Russian Revolution was outside the Pale of Settlement. No Jews lived in this area before the Second World War. However, with the German invasion of the USSR on June 22, 1941, the Ordzhonikidze Kray District became a destination of civilian evacuation or flight, including of many Jews from Soviet Ukraine and Belorussia. With the so-called summer offensive of the German military at the end of June 1942, the Germans began invading the North Caucasus. The Wehrmacht occupied Nagutskoye on August 27, 1942. After the occupation of the village, the German soldiers attacked a house where Jewish refugees were livingi. In the evening of September 3, 1942, the eight Jewish families there were shot to death by Germans in a ravine half a kilometer from the village. The Red Army liberated Nagutskoye between January 13 and 17, 1943.
