From the 19th century many of Gorodnitsa's Jews were employees of the local china factory owned by a Jew whose last name was Zusman. In 1897 the 1,310 Jews living in the town constituted about 57 percent of its total population. The rest of the Jews who did not work at the china factory were small shops owners or made their living from small scale trade.
In 1939 the Jewish population of Gorodnitsa was 1,212, or about 24 percent of the total population.
The town was occupied in early July 1941. By then most of the local Jews had succeeed in fleeing the town. Those Jews who remained in Gorodnitsa were shot to death.
The town was liberated by the partisan unit of Kovpak in September 1943.
