Ipatovo
Russia (USSR)
The village Ipatovo was as a part of the Ordzhonikidze Kray District, which was outside of the tsarist Pale of Settlement. Consequently, only a few Jews lived in the town in 1939. With the German invasion of the USSR on June 22, 1941, the Ordzhonikidze Kray District became a destination of civilian evacuation or flight, including of many Jews from Soviet Ukraine and Belarus. With the summer offensive of the German military at the end of June 1942, the Wehrmacht started their invasion of the North Caucasus. German forces occupied Ipatovo on August 7, 1942. The Germans carried out two murder operations in Ipatovo: the first one in August or September 1942, with 54 victims, and the second -- from October to November 1942 with 86 victims. The Red Army liberated Ipatovo on January 21, 1943.
