Dzhiginka
Russia (USSR)
Since the village of Dzhiginka was outside the Pale of Settlement, during the tsarist period no Jews lived there and few thereafter. However, with the German invasion of the USSR on June 22, 1941, Varennikovsk County became an area of civilian evacuation and refuge, including for Jews. German forces captured Dzhiginka on August 30, 1942. 79 Jews were tortured and killed there during the German occupation. The Red Army liberated Dzhiginka on September 28, 1943.
