Belaya Glina
Russia (USSR)
Since the town of Belaya Glina had been outside the Pale of Settlement under the tsars, only about 10 Jews lived there during the Soviet period. However, with the German invasion of the USSR on June 22, 1941, the town became the destination of civilian evacuation, including of Jews. German forces captured Belaya Glina on August 1, 1942. On August 8 the Germans arrested 15 Jews and killed them in the forest. Between the fall and winter of 1942 the Germans murdered approximately 3,000 civilians, including many Jews from the western areas of the Soviet Union. These Jews were collected from the entire Beloglinsky County. The Red Army liberated Belaya Glina in January 1943.
