Gressk
Belorussia (USSR)
Jews apparently first settled in Gressk in the first half of the 19th century. In the early Soviet period Gressk had 149 Jews, who comprised 6.1 percent of the total population. In 1930 a kolkhoz named after the Jewish revolutionary hero Hirsh Lekkert was established and 12 Jewish families worked there. There was also a local Yiddish elementary school. Gressk was occupied by the Germans on June 27, 1941. The remaining Jews were apparently murdered soon thereafter. Gressk was liberated by the Red Army in July 1944.
