A Jewish presence in Oboltsy is first mentioned in regard to the end of the nineteenth century. During the early Soviet period local Jews made their living from agriculture. Kolkhoz Svoboda was established in 1928 and 30 Jewish families worked there. 353 Jews (out of a total of 382 local residents) lived in Oboltsy in 1923.

The Germans captured Oboltsy in July 1941. On August 14, 1941 a ghetto was established in Oboltsy. On June 4, 1942 the Jews of Oboltsy were murdered near the Obolyanka River.

Oboltsy was liberated by Red Army in the summer of 1944.
