Khmelevoye
Ukraine (USSR)
In 1939 the Jewish population of Khmelevoye County numbered 176 people. Probably a large proportion of them lived in Khmelevoye, where a synagogue had been built. The village was occupied by the Germans in late July - early August 1941. Most of the Jews were shot to death in a mass murder operation in November of that year. Khmelevoye was liberated by the Red Army in mid-March 1944.
