Jews started to settle in Ostrovno at the end of the 17th century. In 1923 410 Jews lived in Ostrovno. Most of the local Jews were small-scale merchants or artisans. The town had a Jewish elementary school. The Germans occupied Ostrovno in the summer of 1941. On July 19, 1941 all Jews were forced to move to a ghetto which was established in ten houses. In addition, all the Jews were forced to wear a yellow patch. The ghetto was not closed, but anyone who left it was subject to being shot. The Jews of Ostrovno were murdered in the vicinity of the village on September 30, 1941 by the Germans and their local collaborators.
