Gofental (in German Hoffental, "Valley of Hope") was an ethnic German village that in the Soviet period was also known as Karl-Marx. In October 1941 7 Jews, 6 of them members of two families, were murdered in the vicinity of the village. After the war the name of the village was officially changed to Karlo-Marksovskoye.
