Jewish settlement in Babinovichi began in the early 18th century. In 1897 the 552 Jews living in Babinovichi comprised 47.7 percent of the total population.

Under Soviet rule the economic situation of the Jews deteriorated. Numerous young people left Babinovichi in search of better employment and educational opportunities. The number of Jews in Babinovichi declined to 332 in 1926, when they comprised 32 percent of the total population.

The town was occupied by the Germans in July 1941. At the beginning of October 16 or 17 Jewish men were murdered near the Verkhita River. Jewish women, children, and old people were shot in mid-February 1942 in the vicinity of Zelenskoye Lake. Babinovichi was liberated on June 25, 1944.
