Roskoshnoye
Ukraine (USSR)
Roskoshnaya was founded as a Jewish agricultural colony in 1855 by Jews from the Vitebsk District. In 1919 a Jewish primary vocational school was opened in the colony. In 1926 the population of the colony was 299. In 1929 the colony became a part of the Novozlatopol Ethnic Jewish County. A Jewish kolkhoz named Tsukunft ("future" in Yiddish} was established in the colony; in 1938 the kolkhoz had 331 members. At the beginning of October 1941 Roskoshnaya was occupied by German troops. In 941 90 Jewish families were shot to death. In September 1943 the colony was liberated by the Red Army. In 1968 the colony was merged with the former Jewish colony Oktyabrfeld (which was then called Oktyabrskaya).
