Genichesk
Ukraine (USSR)
Jews first settled in Genichesk in the early 19th century. In the autumn of 1905, a three-day pogrom took place in the town, and many Jewish shops were burned. In the first decade of the 20th century, several Jewish educational establishments, including cheders and a vocational school for girls, operated in Genichesk. In 1939, the town was home to 947 Jews, who made up six percent of the total population.

Genichesk was occupied by the Germans on September 16, 1941. During the occupation period, numerous mass shootings of Jews took place in the town, claiming several hundred lives. The total number of victims is unknown. The town was liberated by the Red Army on October 30, 1943.
