Only one Jew lived in Makeyevka before the occupation, the 53-year old farmer Nokhim Yoffe. When Makeyevka was occupied by German troops in tmid-September 1941, Yoffe was brutally murdered in the village. Makeyevka was liberated by the Red Army in mid- September 1943.
