Jews settled in Sosnitsa in the late 18th century. In 1897 the Jewish comunity of Sosnitsa numbered 1,842 people, who comprised 26 percent of the total population of the town. In 1919 a Hebrew school was opened but, after a few months, it was closed by the Soviet authorities. In 1922 a Yiddish school opened. In 1939 Sosnitsa's 370 Jews comprised 8 percent of the total population. Sosnitsa was occupied by German troops on September 6, 1941. It was difficult to flee from Sosnitsa due to the lack of a railway line and main roads. Most Jews remained and were murdered by German and Hungarian troops. Some Jews from Sosnitsa County were murdered in Sosnitsa: documents report the killing of some Jews from Lavy on September 12, 1941. Sosnitsa was liberated by the Red Army on September 19 (or September 18), 1943.
