Novo Podolsk
Ukraine (USSR)
Novo-Podolsk was a Jewish agricultural colony founded in the first half of the 19th century. About two thirds of the colony’s residents were agricultural workers; the remaining third engaged in crafts or trade. After the establishment of the Stalindorf Jewish Ethnic County in 1930 Novo-Podolsk became the seat of the County’s rural council. In the 1930s the colony became a mixed Jewish-German-Ukrainian kolkhoz called "The 3rd Internationale." In 1926 354 Jews lived in Novo-Podolsk Most of the Jews succeeded in leaving before the village was occupied by German forces on August 16, 1941. The Germans sent able-bodied Jews from Novo-Podolsk to build the Dnepropetrovsk-Krivoy Rog road. The Jews who remained in the village were murdered, together with Jews from Novo-Vitebsk and Novo-Kovno, near Novo-Podolsk. Novo-Podolsk was liberated by the Red Army on February 2, 1944.
